This pre-fitted single-phase solar PV consumer unit comes ready-wired with a 20A bi-directional RCBO, a 32A rotary isolator and an integrated kWh meter, designed for domestic solar PV installations where the AC protection, isolation and metering need to sit in a single, neat board. It reduces installation time by arriving fully assembled — the installer simply mounts it, makes the incoming and outgoing connections, and the board is ready.
Pre-wired and ready to connect. All components are factory-assembled in a 10-module board, which reduces on-site wiring time and keeps the solar circuit protection, isolation and metering together in one place.
Surge protection and PEN fault detection are not part of this unit. The specification covers the RCBO, rotary isolator and kWh meter only. For solar installations, a Type 2 AC surge protection device is recommended at the consumer unit, and a PME supply requires PEN fault detection under BS 7671. Frequently asked questions
What does pre-fitted or ready-wired mean?
It means the RCBO, isolator and kWh meter are already installed and wired inside the board when it arrives. The installer does not need to fit individual components — they simply mount the board, connect the incoming supply, and connect the solar circuit. This saves time on site, particularly when installing multiple systems.
Why does a solar circuit need a bi-directional RCBO?
On a solar circuit, current can flow from the inverter towards the consumer unit rather than only from the supply to the load. A bi-directional RCBO is designed to protect correctly whichever way the current flows, so it can be connected to a generating circuit without the supply and load terminals being a concern.
What is the rotary isolator for?
The 32 A rotary isolator gives a clear, lockable-style point to disconnect the AC side of the solar system, making servicing, testing and maintenance of the inverter and circuit safer.
What does the kWh meter measure?
The integrated kWh meter records the energy passing through the solar circuit, so you can see how much the system has generated without fitting a separate meter.
Does this include surge protection or PEN fault detection?
No. This board provides RCBO protection, isolation and metering only. For complete solar surge protection you also need DC-side protection (see our solar PV combiner boxes) and AC-side protection at the consumer unit. For a PME supply you also need PEN fault detection.
Is the 20 A RCBO right for my inverter?
Check the inverter's maximum AC output current against the 20 A rating and the cable size being used. The protective device must be selected to suit the inverter and the cable on the circuit.
