Brand: Fast Amps

A straightforward, reliable 7.4kW EV charger — designed and manufactured in the UK, built to work every time.

The FastAmps Alpha7 is designed around a simple idea: a home EV charger should be easy to install, easy to use, and dependable for years. Where other chargers add complexity, the Alpha7 focuses on what actually matters — reliable power delivery, smart scheduling, and a robust weatherproof build.

Available in socketed and tethered versions. The socketed version uses the Type 2 cable that comes with your car and suits those who prefer a tidy, minimal installation. The tethered version has a 5m cable permanently attached, ready to grab and plug in — the straightforward choice for daily charging.

The FastAmps app lets you schedule charging around cheaper overnight electricity tariffs, view your usage history, and lock the charger when not in use. Dynamic solar integration adjusts the charge rate automatically to match your solar output, reducing how much you draw from the mains. Built-in dynamic load balancing means the charger monitors your home's total power draw and reduces charge rate if needed, preventing nuisance trips on your consumer unit.

Designed and manufactured in the UK — plastics moulded in Birmingham, PCBs assembled in Halesowen, and finished in Shrewsbury. FastAmps are a Made in Britain member and offer UK-based technical support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Socketed or tethered — which should I choose?

A socketed charger uses the Type 2 cable that usually comes with your car — you plug both ends in each time. It gives a cleaner installation and makes it easy to swap cables if needed. A tethered charger has a fixed 5m cable permanently attached, so you just grab it and plug into the car. It's the more convenient option for drivers who charge every day. FastAmps ship roughly three socketed units for every tethered one, but it comes down to personal preference.

Will it work with my car?

The Alpha7 is compatible with all modern electric vehicles. Note that older EVs imported from Japan or South Korea before 2014 — such as early Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV models — use a Type 1 connector. These need a socketed charger and their own Type 1 cable.

Does the Alpha7 need a WiFi connection?

No. WiFi is optional. The Alpha7 uses a Bluetooth connection to your phone as standard, which is all that is needed to comply with the Smart Charge Point Regulations 2021. WiFi and Ethernet connections are available if you prefer remote access. This keeps the charger simple and reliable — no dependency on your home network.

Can I use it with off-peak electricity tariffs?

Yes. The FastAmps app lets you set charging windows to coincide with cheaper overnight rates. All Alpha7 chargers come pre-programmed to avoid peak hours (07:00–11:00 and 16:00–22:00) in line with the Smart Charge Point Regulations 2021, and you can customise these times through the app to match your tariff.

Do I need a professional installer?

Yes — EV charger installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician. FastAmps have a network of approved installers across the UK. Contact us and we can help connect you with a local installer alongside your order.

Can I claim the OZEV EV chargepoint grant?

The Alpha7 meets the requirements for the OZEV EV chargepoint grant, available to homeowners in flats and people in rented accommodation with dedicated off-street parking. Your installer can usually handle the application — contact us if you need guidance.
