Is this the right charger for you?
Choose Basic Socket if: you have multiple EVs, want visitors to charge with their own cable, or don't have solar panels.
Choose Basic Tethered instead if: you have one EV and want the convenience of a permanently attached cable.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between Basic and Plus?
Both charge at 7kW with the same core smart features — app control, Octopus Intelligent, dynamic load balancing and OCPP 1.6. Plus adds solar panel compatibility, a premium metal (or Accoya wood) lid, and the option to add a Wireless Energy Manager for installs where running a CT clamp cable is impractical.
Does Basic support Octopus Intelligent and OCPP?
Yes to both. Every Simpson & Partners charger, Basic and Plus, supports Octopus Intelligent and OCPP 1.6.
Will this charger support Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G)?
V2G will be available as a future hardware upgrade module rather than being built in today. Ask us about timing if V2G matters for your purchase decision now.
Do I need an earth rod for installation?
No. Basic includes integrated PEN fault detection that satisfies BS 7671 Regulation 722.411.4.1 on TN-C-S (PME) supplies — no earth rod or external protection box required.
Can I charge from solar panels with Basic?
No — solar diversion is a Plus-only feature. If you have solar panels or plan to add them, choose the Plus range instead.
