WME04/MS100
Steel-bodied, IP40-rated consumer units and distribution enclosures built to BS EN 61439-3 and fully compliant with 18th Edition Amendment 2 Wiring Regulations. Available in five configurations across nine enclosure sizes — from a compact 4-way empty case to a fully equipped 36-module SPD board. All prices ex-VAT.
Designed for domestic rewires, new builds, EV charger sub-boards and workshop distribution. These enclosures cover every configuration required under current UK wiring regulations — from a plain steel case to a pre-wired surge-protected board ready to populate.
Do I need an SPD-fitted board? Yes, for virtually all new domestic installations and rewires since BS 7671:2018 Amendment 2. The WME/SP range includes a factory-wired Type 2 40kA surge protection device and satisfies this requirement out of the box. For empty or main-switch-only enclosures, a standalone SPD must be added separately.
What's included
- Empty enclosures (WME series) — steel case with DIN rail, neutral/earth bar and blanks. For configuring from scratch or replacing a damaged case.
- Main switch boards (WME/MS100) — pre-fitted 100A double-pole main switch. Between 2 and 20 usable ways depending on size. The standard starting point for domestic rewires and new builds.
- Surge protected boards (WME/SP) — 100A main switch plus factory-wired Type 2 40kA SPD. Available 6 to 36 way. Removes the need to source and wire an SPD separately.
- Twin RCD boards (WME TR series) — 100A main switch with two Type A RCDs (63A, 80A or 100A). SPD versions available. 14 to 22 way.
- Twin tariff boards (WME/MS2) — two independent main switches for dual-rate or Economy 7 metering. 12 or 14 usable ways.

- Installers adding a dedicated EV charger circuit requiring a sub-board or new consumer unit
- Contractors supplying solar PV or battery storage installations needing a compliant distribution point
- Self-builders and tradespeople needing a flexible, regulation-compliant enclosure at trade price
Frequently asked questions
Are these 18th Edition compliant?
Yes. The SPD-fitted variants (WME/SP and TR/SP models) meet the surge protection requirement introduced by BS 7671:2018 Amendment 2, which applies to all new domestic and rewired installations. The empty and main-switch-only enclosures require a separate SPD — our WSPD240 Type 2 unit is a direct fit.
How many usable ways do I actually get?
Fewer than the module count suggests. The 100A main switch takes 2 module spaces, and the SPD takes a further 2 on SPD-fitted boards. A 12-module SPD board therefore gives 8 usable ways; an 18-module SPD board gives 14. See the sizing table above for every size. As a rule, go one size larger than your current circuit count — the cost difference is small and avoids a rework when the homeowner later adds an EV charger or solar.
What MCBs and RCBOs are compatible?
Any standard 18 mm (1-module) DIN rail device. Our 6kA MCB range (WMC), A-type single-module RCBOs (WRB), 10kA RCBOs (WRT) and AFDD range all fit directly. The busbar pitch is standard, so devices from most other major brands are also compatible.
Do you sell flush mount frames?
Yes — the WMEF14 fits 12–14 module boards, WMEF18 fits 16–18 module, and WMEF22 fits 22 module. Listed separately in our accessories range.
Can I order in bulk for a commercial project?
Yes. Contact us for trade account pricing on quantities. We hold substantial stock and can supply at short lead times for larger projects. Trade enquiries →
