All the intelligence of the Plus — solar charging, Octopus Intelligent, built-in energy monitoring — with the convenience of a cable that's always ready. A 6.8m or 9.6m Type 2 cable permanently attached, in a premium metal or Accoya wood finish.
A solar-ready, tethered EV charger designed to be seen
Most tethered EV chargers are plain black or white boxes, built down to a price. This one is different — a genuinely design-led charging point, available in a colour and lid finish to match your home, with the convenience of a cable that's always ready to plug in.
For homes with solar panels, it's also one of the more capable options on the market: the charger detects surplus solar generation and automatically shifts your car's charge rate to use it, rather than exporting it back to the grid at a low rate. Combined with Octopus Intelligent for overnight tariff optimisation and built-in energy monitoring, it actively manages your electricity costs rather than just delivering power.
Every unit is designed and manufactured in the UK, with a metal lid as standard and an Accoya® wood upgrade for a genuinely premium finish — Accoya carries its own 50-year durability guarantee. It's backed by a 5-year hardware warranty and a 10-year enclosure warranty, among the longest in the UK EV charging market, and supports the open OCPP 1.6 protocol so it isn't locked to a single app or supplier. A Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) upgrade path is planned as a future hardware module.
Whether you're comparing this against a Zappi, an Ohme, an Andersen or any other UK tethered EV charger, the same questions apply: is it genuinely smart, is it built to last, and does it look right on your house? This charger is designed to answer yes to all three.
Everything the range offers, in one charger
This is the version to choose when you don't want to compromise on anything: solar charging for a single EV household, a cable that's always ready to go, and a finish — metal or Accoya wood, in any of 91 colour combinations — chosen to suit your home rather than whatever came in the box.

Is this the right charger for you?
Choose Plus Tethered if: you have solar panels and one EV, and want maximum plug-in convenience.

Choose Basic Tethered instead if: you don't have solar and want the simplest, most cost-effective tethered setup.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Plus Tethered and Basic Tethered?
Both have a permanently attached 6.8m or 9.6m Type 2 cable and support Octopus Intelligent and OCPP 1.6. Plus adds solar charging, built-in energy monitoring, a premium metal or wood lid, and the option to add a Wireless Energy Manager for harder installs.
Can I use solar energy to charge my car?
Yes. The Plus charger detects surplus solar generation and automatically adjusts charge rate to use it — reducing cost by maximising your free solar electricity.
Will this charger support Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G)?
V2G will be available as a future hardware upgrade module rather than being built in today. Ask us about timing if this matters for your decision now.
Is there a cable hook available?
Yes. A colour-matched cable hook is available separately and mounts directly to the charger or adjacent wall.
Simpson & Partners Home Series 7 kW EV Charger Plus Type 2 Tethered
Installation was straightforward, and the tethered cable keeps everything neat and easy to use. The charger feels really solid and premium. Delivery was quicker than expected, and Eco Harmony were great at answering questions before I ordered, which gave me confidence I was choosing the right setup.
