For homes with solar panels — or anyone who wants a more design-led charger — the Plus takes home charging further. A premium metal lid as standard, full solar charging compatibility, Octopus Intelligent and OCPP 1.6 support, in a colour range built to match your home, not just your charger.
A solar-ready EV charger designed to be seen
Most home EV chargers are designed to disappear — plain black or white boxes bolted to a wall. This one is different. It's a genuinely design-led EV charger, available in a colour and lid finish to match your front door, your brickwork, or your personal taste, without compromising on the smart technology inside.
For homes with solar panels, it's also one of the more capable options on the market: the charger detects surplus solar generation and automatically shifts your car's charge rate to use it, rather than exporting it back to the grid at a low rate. Combined with Octopus Intelligent for overnight tariff optimisation and built-in energy monitoring, this is a charger that actively manages your electricity costs rather than just delivering power.
Every unit is designed and manufactured in the UK, with a metal lid as standard and an Accoya® wood upgrade for those who want a genuinely premium finish — Accoya carries its own 50-year durability guarantee. It's backed by a 5-year hardware warranty and a 10-year enclosure warranty, among the longest in the UK EV charging market, and supports the open OCPP 1.6 protocol so it isn't locked to a single app or energy supplier for its working life. A Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) upgrade path is planned as a future hardware module.
Whether you're comparing this against a Zappi, an Ohme, an Andersen or any other UK home EV charger, the same questions apply: is it genuinely smart, is it built to last, and does it look right on your house? This charger is designed to answer yes to all three — and with 91 colour and lid combinations, "looks right" is entirely up to you.
Built for solar, finished to match your home
If you've already invested in solar panels, the socket variant means the charger works around your setup rather than the other way round — a separate lead for each driver, no cable to fight over between two EVs, and free rein to pick from 91 colour and lid combinations rather than the black or white box most solar-compatible chargers ship in.

Is this the right charger for you?
Choose Plus Socket if: you have solar panels, want the widest colour range, or a premium metal/wood lid matters.
Choose Plus Tethered instead if: you want the same features with a permanently attached cable.
Choose Basic instead if: you don't have solar and want the simplest, most cost-effective setup.
Choose 22kW Plus instead if: your property has a three-phase supply and you want faster charging.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need the Wireless Energy Manager for solar charging?
No — solar charging is a feature of the Plus charger itself. The Wireless Energy Manager is a separate accessory for load balancing installs where running a wired CT clamp cable to the meter is impractical; it isn't required to enable solar.
How does solar charging work?
The Plus charger detects surplus solar generation and automatically increases your car's charge rate to absorb that surplus, rather than exporting it back to the grid at a lower rate. When solar output drops, the charger adjusts accordingly.
Does Plus support Octopus Intelligent and OCPP?
Yes to both — the same as Basic. Every Simpson & Partners charger supports Octopus Intelligent and OCPP 1.6.
Can I connect via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi?
Yes. The optional Ethernet module connects the Plus charger to your router via a cable — ideal for garages or outbuildings with weak Wi-Fi. Both connections can remain active simultaneously.
Will this charger support Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G)?
V2G will be available as a future hardware upgrade module rather than being built in today. Ask us about timing if this matters for your decision now.
What colours is Plus available in?
14 body colours across 7 lid finishes — 91 combinations in total. A free colour sample card is available if you'd like to see finishes in person before ordering.
I went for the cotswold green with oak lid and the photos don't do it justice. It looks so good outside our front door. Works with Octopus inteligent perfectly. Our installer set up load balancing because we have a small fuse and its worked great. would highly recommend
I spent quite a bit of time comparing chargers before going with Simpson & Partners, and I’m glad I did. The build quality is the first thing you notice — it feels properly premium compared to some of the more plastic-looking units out there. I went for the 7kW Home Plus (tethered), and installation was straightforward for my electrician.
The app took a little bit of getting used to at first, but once set up, scheduling charging around cheaper overnight tariffs has been really easy and reliable. Charging speeds have been exactly what I expected, and it’s been completely faultless day-to-day.
It is a bit more expensive than some alternatives, but you can see where the money goes in terms of design and quality. If you want something that looks good on your house and just works, it’s definitely worth considering.
